Lidl has shared an update on the two new supermarkets it is opening in Bristol this year.
The German retailer revealed how progress is coming along on both the forthcoming sites currently under construction in Broadmead and Avonmeads.
Lidl first confirmed its plans to take over the former H&M site on Union Street back in November 2020 after the clothing retailer closed its doors for good during the pandemic.

And the company has now said the Broadmead branch should be opening its doors to the public later this year, making it the first Lidl site in the city centre.
Speaking to Bristol Live on the Broadmead site, a spokesperson for Lidl said: “We are very much looking forward to opening our new Lidl supermarket on Union Street, Bristol and are hoping to welcome customers later this summer.
“Once opened, the store will create around 40 new jobs for the local area and we would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding as we progress our new store.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the construction of Lidl's new supermarket at Avonmeads Retail Park is also under way.
They added: “Once complete the new store will revitalise the unit formerly occupied by Currys PC World and will create around 30 jobs for the local community.”
Lidl was unable to confirm an opening date as it is still in the process of finalising details of this branch. The retailer hopes to provide the public with more information about both sites closer to their completion.
The supermarket retailer first announced its plans to take over the former Curry's PC World unit in March 2021 and has since made progress with the construction.
There are 14 Lidl stores in the Bristol area according to the supermarket’s website, with plans proposed for several new stores.
Lidl's Lawrence Hill site underwent a revamp last year before reopening to customers at the end of July.
