Everybody loves a Christmas film. From It’s a Wonderful Life to Elf, there is nothing like planting yourself in front of the TV after gorging yourself on one too many pigs-in-blankets.
If a Christmas romantic-comedy is your kind of thing, but you have watched Love Actually far too many times over the past few festive seasons, Netflix has just the ticket. The streaming giant is gracing viewers with a brand-new rom-com this winter, just in time for Christmas.
Falling for Christmas stars Lindsay Lohan as a newly engaged and spoiled hotel heiress who suffers from amnesia after getting into a skiing accident. She finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner – played by Glee star Chord Overstreet – and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.
The film marks a return to Hollywood for Lohan, in her first major role in more than a decade. Speaking to Vogue earlier this year, the Mean Girls star described Falling for Christmas as a “really fun, uplifting romantic comedy” with lots of physical comedy.
It is directed by Janeen Damian in her directorial debut. Janeen’s brother and the film’s producer Michael Damian appeared on The Pop Culture Show podcast last year where he described Falling for Christmas as a comedy with lots of “really funny moments” and praised Lohan for her “incredible talent”.
Lohan also recorded a song for the film, singing a cover of Jingle Bell Rock – which also featured in one pivotal Mean Girls scene – which appeared in its official trailer. The track is available to stream from November 4.
Falling for Christmas is released on Netflix on Thursday November 10 at 8am.
