When is 'Eternity' streaming? Here's our best guess

(L-R): Elizabeth Olsen as Joan, Miles Teller as Larry Cutler and Callum Turner as Luke in "Eternity" (2025).

"Eternity" might not be an Oscar contender, but this rom-com starring Elizabeth Olsen as a woman deciding which dead husband to spend the afterlife with is one of my favorite movies of 2025. In fact, it's probably the best romantic comedy I've seen in years, thanks to clever writing and excellent chemistry.

I'm not alone in praising this movie either. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics rate it a passable 77%, but audiences love "Eternity," rating it 90% fresh on the Popcornmeter. But if you're reading this, there's a good chance you haven't seen it yet; "Eternity" has made just over $17.4 million at the box office so far. And, let's be honest, if you didn't see it yet, there's a good chance you're just waiting to stream "Eternity" at home.

Lucky for you, there's good news. While "Eternity" is not available to stream on one of the best streaming services yet, I can make an educated guess about when you'll be able to stream it, and I already know where you'll be able to stream it. I can also make a good guess as to when you'll be able to buy or rent it to watch at home. So here's when we think you'll be able to watch "Eternity" at home, and our best guess for when you can stream it on Apple TV.

Where can you stream 'Eternity'?

As of right now, "Eternity" is still playing in theaters following its Nov. 26 U.S. release. But if you’re waiting to watch it from home, you'll have a couple of options.

First, once "Eternity" has been in theaters for a bit, it'll then enter its premium video on-demand (PVOD) window. At that point, you'll be able to buy or rent it from digital storefronts such as Amazon, Apple and Fandango at Home. You can already pre-order it at Amazon and Fandango.

Then, a bit after that, you'll be able to stream "Eternity" at home on Apple TV as part of your subscription. This is a bit unusual; "Eternity" is distributed by A24, which has a deal to debut its movies on HBO Max when they're ready to head to streaming video-on-demand (SVOD) services. But it was produced by Apple Original Films, which means it's destined for Apple's streaming service.

When can you stream 'Eternity'?

Since "Eternity" is really an Apple movie, it makes it tricky to guess when you'll be able to stream it on various platforms. A24 has produced films with Apple in the past, but the most recent ones all arrived on Apple TV mere weeks after their limited theatrical releases. This was the case with Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest," which came out on Apple TV 20 days after its theatrical debut.

But there are a couple of movies we can reference. "Argylle," "Fly Me to the Moon," and "F1" are all movies from the past two years that were co-produced by Apple for wide theatrical release. Each of these hit PVOD services like Amazon, Apple and others about a month after their theatrical debut.

Based on that math, I'm fairly certain "Eternity" should be available to buy or rent digitally starting around Dec. 30. You can already pre-order it from several platforms, so a release is surely imminent.

As for when "Eternity" will hit SVOD services, where you can watch with a subscription you might already have, that's more difficult to predict. While "Argylle," "Fly Me to the Moon," and "F1" all hit PVOD at similar times, they didn't arrive on Apple TV at consistent intervals. "Fly Me to the Moon," and "F1" both took about six months to arrive on the streaming service, but "Argylle" arrived just two months after it's theatrical debut.

The good news is that Apple already announced that "Eternity" will be able to stream on Apple TV in early 2026. The bad news is that "early" is incredibly vague. My best guess is that, since Apple is already promoting the release, "Eternity" follows a release cadence more in line with "Argylle" than "Fly Me to the Moon," and "F1." That puts it at a potential January 30 Apple TV release date, but I'll update this accordingly when we know more.

What is 'Eternity' about?

Spoiler alert: Everyone dies in "Eternity." That's because this movie is set almost entirely in the afterlife. It centers around Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), who dies about a week after her husband, Larry (Miles Teller). She arrives at a hotel conference where you can pick your "eternity" — somewhere to spend the rest of your life, with or without your soulmate.

Waiting there for her is Larry, who, like Joan, is now a younger version of himself. But he's not the only dead husband waiting for Joan. Her first husband, Luke (Callum Turner), died in the Korean War and has been waiting for her for decades, bartending in this version of limbo while hoping one day he'd get a chance to spend eternity with her. Now, she has to choose who she joins in the afterlife — and hilarity ensues.
