When is Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor on TV? Start time, date and trailer

There are only a few days to go until actress Jodie Whittaker makes her final appearance as the thirteenth Doctor. Jodie's exit from the popular sci-fi show was confirmed in the summer of 2021 when it was revealed there would be a trio of special episodes, airing in 2022, before she stands down from the iconic role.

The third and final instalment is part of the BBC's 100th anniversary celebrations and the trailer teases an action-packed send-off for the actress, who took over from Peter Capaldi in 2017. In this final outing as thirteen, the Doctor will have to face not just one, but three enemies - the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master.

The episode also marks the end of showrunner Chris Chibnall's time on the show - with Russell T Davies confirmed to return for the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who in 2023 and the series beyond. The TARDIS keys will be passed onto a brand new Doctor that will be played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa.

Here are all the details on when the thirteenth Doctor's final episode will be airing on the BBC:

When is Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor airing on TV?

The trio of specials will conclude with a 90-minute episode on Sunday, October 23 from 7.30pm titled 'The Power of the Doctor'. It will be the final time Jodie Whittaker will be seen as the thirteenth Doctor.

Speaking ahead of her final appearance, Jodie teased that fans are in for "an absolute treat" and that the episode "encapsulates all the things the fans love about Doctor Who". She also revealed what items she'd had from the Doctor Who set on her departure: "I’ve got my costume, my sonic, a Cyberman! When I fly the TARDIS, I flick a switch and what spins inside is a mini TARDIS that lights up so that spins and then I pull the handle down - I’ve got that too."

The Doctor's companions Yaz and Dan played by Mandip Gill and John Bishop will be returning for the final run including Sacha Dhawan as The Master. There will also be appearances from Janet Fielding, as Tegan Jovanka the companion to the fourth and fifth Doctors and Sophie Aldred as Ace, the companion to the seventh Doctor.

An official synopsis released by the BBC teases the "final battle" it reads: "In this feature-length Special to mark her last adventure, Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor must fight for her very existence, against her deadliest enemies: the Daleks, the Cybermen and her arch-nemesis, the Master. Who is attacking a speeding bullet train on the edges of a distant galaxy? Why are seismologists going missing from 21st century Earth?

"Who is defacing some of history’s most iconic paintings? Why is a Dalek trying to make contact with the Doctor? And just what hold does the mesmeric Rasputin have over Tsar Nicholas in 1916 Russia? The Doctor faces multiple threats... and a battle to the death."

You can stream all episodes from Jodie's era as The Doctor over on the BBC iPlayer.
