When is Call The Midwife Christmas special on? BBC set to score ratings hit with drama special

Millions of viewers will settle around their televisions on Sunday to watch the Call The Midwife Christmas special, as the residents of Poplar return for the festive season.

Call The Midwife, without any shadow of a doubt, is one of the biggest dramas of the last decade, with each series being lapped up by an extremely loyal fanbase. And, just as each run of the BBC smash hit is a huge ratings winner, viewers always look forward to its Christmas special.

The most recent run of Call The Midwife was the programme's most dramatic to date, with the penultimate episode culminating in a train crash, which left the lives of Sister Julienne and Doctor Turner were left hanging in the balance, as fans feared the worst. Thankfully, they both survived and will now both be seen in the Christmas episode.

It was way back in April that the first teaser of the festive special surfaced online, with the Call The Midwife Twitter account sharing a photo of Stephen and on-screen wife Laura Main, with the actors as their family. The tweet read: "Exclusive! It's a Turner Christmas on the #CallTheMidwife set!! #Christmas Special #Series 12 xxx"

Swift to react, fan replied: "Approximately 8 weeks ago after never watching an episode of @CallTheMidwife1 I decide to watch from the beginning (completely hooked). I have just started series 11 and I have loved every episode. Can’t wait for the Christmas special and series 12."

What time is Call The Midwife on Christmas Day?

Call The Midwife will be on BBC One from 7.55 - 9.25pm on Sunday, December 25.

A teaser for this year's Christmas episode reads: "As Christmas 1967 comes round, Poplar is returning to normal after the train crash and Matthew is delighted to see the return of Trixie from Portofino. The midwives move the clinic into new premises, where they treat old patient Rhoda, who is understandably nervous after her last baby was born with limbs affected by Thalidomide, and a heavily pregnant single mother recently released from prison.

It adds: "Meanwhile, Fred comes up with the idea of a festive talent show to raise money for those still affected by the crash."
