Marvel has confirmed the release date of the latest film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally comes to Disney+. The sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning Black Panther sees fans transported back to the secretive African nation of Wakanda, as a new foe threatens their existence – all while they mourn the loss of their king, T’Challa.
As they fight to protect their home from intervening world powers, it also sees a character inherit the mantle of the Black Panther. It marks the first Black Panther film since the tragic death of actor Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020 aged 43.
Marvel unveiled a new poster for the film as it confirmed its release date, showing returning stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke and Danai Gurira alongside newcomer to the franchise Tenoch Huerta as the villainous Namor. Since its theatrical release in November, Wakanda Forever has raked in more than $827m worldwide, and currently boasts a Certified Fresh 84 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Many critics have praised the way it deals with the death of T’Challa, seeing the film as a fitting and emotional tribute to Boseman, who portrayed the Black Panther in four films, starting in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. It is also is the final film of the MCU’s Phase Four, before Phase Five kicks off next month with the hotly anticipated Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
