More than a decade since Avatar was released in cinemas, its highly-anticipated sequel is finally just around the corner. When it was released way back in 2009, Avatar broke countless barriers, in both a filmmaking and commercial sense.
The science-fiction epic went on to become the highest grossing film of all time and the first to gross more than $2bn. Now, 13 years later, visionary director James Cameron takes viewers back to Pandora to join a host of familiar – and new – faces for its sequel.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, viewers rejoin former paraplegic marine Jake Sully ( Sam Worthington ) more than a decade after the events of the first film, as he lives with his newfound family on the extrasolar moon Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri ( Zoe Saldaña ) and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their home.
