As a consumer journalist, I’ve seen a lot of ‘deals’ in my time that are, frankly, pretty rubbish.
Many retailers, including Amazon, show the sale price against the ‘recommended retail price’ (RRP). This is the price that the manufacturer recommends an item is sold for, but that doesn’t mean the item ever actually cost that much.
For example, if an inflatable pool is on sale for £30, and the RRP is £20, it may look like you’re getting £10 off. But if the item is usually sold for £25, it’s not as much of a bargain.
To make sure you’re getting the full picture, copy the item’s link and paste it into the site Camelcamelcamel. This is a free price tracker that will show you the price of an Amazon item over time, so you can make sure you’re really getting a good deal.
