When England will play World Cup quarter-final and who they will face after Senegal win

England have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup after registering a huge 3-0 win over African champions Senegal on Sunday night. While the scoreline appears to be comfortable, the opening stages were far from it for the Three Lions.

Two huge chances were missed by the current AFCON holders and England made them pay as Jude Bellingham teed up Jordan Henderson to open the scoring. On the stroke of half-time, their advantage was doubled as Harry Kane opened his account for the tournament to make the task easier.

The second half continued as the first ended as the lead extended further through Bukayo Saka, found by Phil Foden with acres of space in the box. The win has now set up England with a huge quarter-final tie with World Cup holders France on Saturday, December 10. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm UK time.

Les Bleus booked their place by being Group D winners, facing off against Poland in their final-16 tie. The clash played out similarly to England's with Didier Deschamps' side struggling to get much out of the game until late in the first half as Olivier Giroud opened the scoring.

Given the lead, France then quickly accelerated and took control of their tie through Kylian Mbappe, who scored two fantastic strikes to put the game out of sight. Robert Lewandowski's second goal of what could be his final World Cup tournament from the penalty spot would only be a consolation.

It could be a first major test of both teams in their hopes of winning the whole tournament again, having not met since 2017 in an international friendly that ended 3-2 to France.
