The UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Championship gets underway this week as hosts England look to claim their first ever title as they prepare to compete on home soil, in which the Lionesses will hope to replicate and even go one step further than the men’s team last year by winning the tournament.
However, fierce competition for the title comes in the form of defending champions the Netherlands, who won their first ever European Championship as hosts in 2017, as well as Germany, who hold the record for most tournament wins with eight.

When does the Women’s Euro 2022 Championship start?
The UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Championship will be hosted by England and will run from Wednesday, July 6 to Sunday, July 31.
As the hosts, England will open the tournament against Austria in Group A on Wednesday night, with kick-off at 8pm at Old Trafford.
How to watch
The whole tournament will be broadcast live on the BBC, with matches being streamed on BBC One and BBC Two throughout the month.
Alternatively, matches can also be streamed live via BBC iPlayer and the BBC iPlayer app, as well as the BBC Sport website.
The opening match between England and Austria on Wednesday night will be televised on BBC One, while it can be streamed live via BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website. Live coverage will begin from 7pm.

This is the second version of the competition that will involve 16 teams, split up into four groups of four. As hosts, England qualified automatically for the tournament.
