A family fleeing war-torn Ukraine arrived in the UK and immediately asked their hosts, "when does the shelling start?" But after initially being terrified, Peter, eight, Aiia, 11, and mum Anya soon settled in at the Cornwall dairy farm.
At first, Peter was petrified of the cows on the farm. Now best friends with the calves, he has even started falling asleep on them.
The family came to the UK six months ago after fleeing war-torn Ukraine. Andrew Brewer and his wife Claire took them in at their farm in Fraddon.
Andrew said: "They were very nervous when they first got here, the first thing they asked was 'when does the shelling start?' They were very much saying 'be quiet, don't make any noise' - they were worried they would have to keep moving.
"When Peter first got here he was absolutely petrified of the cows, but he's lost that fear now. He's got a bond with them, he goes missing in the cow pens and we'll find him right in the middle of a pen of 30 calves."
Mr Brewer took to Twitter last month to show just how well Peter had eventually settled into life on the farm. A picture of the boy having a sleep on "his mate Max the calf", has been liked by over 47,000 people.
The family was matched with the Brewers on a Facebook group, Sunflower Sisters UK, which helps Ukrainian refugees find safe homes in the UK. Mr Brewer said: "Our two daughters have moved out of home, so we had spare rooms.
"My wife and I decided that their needs were greater than our empty rooms so we saw it as an opportunity to help someone in need. They've got plenty of space on the farm, they have bikes and lots of local people donated clothes and boxes of toys.
"A lot of refugees are coming to the end of their six months and are getting worried. But we're happy for them to stay as long as they need. We all muck in together and treat everyone like family."
