The trailer for Jodie Whittaker's farewell from Doctor Who has been released, with some exciting inclusions as fans count down to seeing a new face in the role.
The change comes as a significant one, with fans wondering where the show will go from here after Whittaker became the first woman to play The Doctor, taking over from lifelong Who fan Peter Capaldi.
Some fans have criticised the show's direction and former writer Russell T. Davies, more recently of the eye-catching It's A Sin, is now back on board. Some have already been left disappointed as Hugh Grant confirmed he would not be taking over the role, despite alleged talks.
After Legend of the Sea Devils, some of the old enemies are set to return in the form of the Daleks and the Cybermen, while two companions from the classic Doctor Who - Tegan Jovanka as Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred as Ace - are ready to make their return.
The Doctor's arch-enemy The Master will return in the shape of Sacha Dhawan, setting up a big finale for Jodie.
So who is the next in line to replace Jodie Whittaker at the controls of the Tardis?
Could David Tennant return as The Doctor?
Bookies are currently going through a period of sorting out their odds for the next face of Doctor Who, but Ladbrokes recently made a stunning return for tenth Doctor David Tennant at 11/10.
Tennant, one of the show's best-loved Doctors, some of the re-vamped show's classic episodes alongside companions Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, as well as Martha Jones and Donna Noble, played by Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate respectively.
The end of Tennant's time as the Doctor coincided with the departure of Russell T Davies as showrunner, so of course rumours are rife about a return.
Who will be the next Doctor?
Davies' BAFTA-nominated It's A Sin sees some of the show's main actors tipped to be within a shout, including Lydia West and Olly Alexander.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The latest odds suggest Russell T Davies will almost definitely be turning to a familiar face when it comes to Jodie Whittaker's replacement, with David Tennant joined by a host of It's A Sin stars at the head of the betting."
The full list of Ladbrokes odds are as follows:
- David Tennant - 11/10
- Lydia West - 4/1
- Olly Alexander - 4/1
- Fisayo Akinade - 6/1
- Omari Douglas - 6/1
It should be noted that the above odds are currently not available on the Ladbrokes website as the bookies reset their odds.
When will Jodie Whittaker leave Doctor Who?
Jodie Whittaker will leave Doctor Who in the autumn of 2022 and she will depart alongside showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Her last appearance in the Tardis will be part of the BBC's centenary celebrations, a great excuse for the show to bring back former companions.
On her return as Sophie Aldred, Janet Fielding said: "In some ways it was a very different experience to what it was like when I finished recording in 1983, but in many ways it was very similar. It was so lovely to be a working member of the Doctor Who family again."
