When does BBC One comedy Here We Go start and what is the series about?

BBC Comedy series Here We Go is coming to BBC One. The new series cast includes Tom Basden, Alison Steadman, Jim Howick, Katherine Parkinson, Freya Parks, Jude Morgan-Collie, Tori Allen-Marten Mica Ricketts and Ed Kear.

Written by Tom Basden, the pilot episode for the BBC One series was first shown in 2020. It highlighted the youngest son in the family documenting his family across the year, after a failed attempt to book a family holiday in the midst of the pandemic.

Speaking on his experience in writing Here We Go, Tom Basden said: ‘’I think once I found the stories I wanted to tell and the overall series arcs for the characters and their relationships, it was quite easy and really enjoyable. When I first came up with the idea for the show, it was never intended to be purely for the pandemic, even though this worked really well for the pilot in 2020.’’

When does Here We Go start?

Here We go will begin to air on BBC One on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 8.30pm. The show will also be available to watch as a box set on BBC iPlayer.

What is Here We Go about?

Here We Go follows the highs and lows of the Jessop family as they journey through life's everyday challenges. This includes changing careers, keeping romance alive and trying out healthier diet choices. Laced with comedy throughout, the series also will show humorous storylines such as kidnapping a dog, destroying a swimming pool and sabotaging a wedding.

Sharing whether we can expect any improvisation in the series, Mr Basden said: ‘’There was certainly some. I was always encouraging the cast to do takes where we go a bit mad and throw stuff in and start all talking over each other because in some ways, the show is about the chaos of family life, so I wanted it to feel like we’re a real family and that it’s not all carefully scripted.‘’
