When did the Cleveland Guardians change their Indians name? Here’s the answer with history.

If you’re dropping in and watching the Cleveland Guardians for the first time, you may remember they were the franchise once known for being the Cleveland Indians.

So … what happened there? And why are they the Guardians now?

Glad you asked! We have answers!

Back in 2020, the franchise announced they would do away with the Indians moniker and the racist Chief Wahoo logo. And in 2021, we found out the new nickname: the Cleveland franchise would be known as the Guardians, named after the statues at the Hope Memorial Bridge.
