When are the BAFTAs 2023 including nominees, performers attendees and how to watch

The 76th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) awards are set to take place this weekend celebrating the very best in film of the past year. A total of 45 feature films received nominations in January with Netflix's German war epic, All Quiet on the Western Front, a strong contender to win out with 14 nominations.

The awards ceremony revamped its voting methods in 2020 which included inviting 1,000 new members from under-represented groups to become members at a 'heavily discounted' rate. In total, there are 25 film-related categories for recognising outstanding achievement not including high-profile awards such as the Academy Fellowship.

The Academy's film voting membership, juries and chapters determine nominees and winners in the majority of categories. The night will end with the winners for the final four categories which are Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Film.

There is always room for quirks and surprises at the BAFTAs and it seems voters have largely rejected Hollywood blockbusters this year such as Top Gun: Maverick and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. A royal visit has been officially confirmed also and a star-studded guestlist is anticipated.

We've provided a full breakdown of everything you need to know about the BAFTAs 2023 below.

When are the BAFTAS 2023 and where can I watch?

The BAFTAs 2023 will be held on Sunday 19 February and will be broadcast from the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden at 7pm to 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Who is hosting the BAFTAS 2023?

Oscar and BAFTA nominee Richard E Grant will host the ceremony with presenter Alison Hammond taking the lead in the backstage studio. Meanwhile, film critic Ali Plumb and broadcaster Vick Hope will host the red carpet show.

Who will be performing?

Mercury Prize winner Little Simz has so far been confirmed and in a statement, the organisation said that performances featured throughout the broadcast will be "from music newcomers and legends alike." The remaining artists have not yet been announced.

Who is attending?

Kensington palace has officially confirmed that the Prince William and Kate Middleton will be attending after a two-year hiatus and meeting the night's winners. The night is always a star-studded event as last year Lady Gaga, Emma Watson, Daisy Ridley and Salma Hayek were among the big names that appeared on the red carpet.
