WhatsApp will stop working on some iPhones in just a few days

If you haven't upgraded your iPhone in a few years then you may face issues with WhatsApp this month.

A new update to the popular messaging service will mean that some phones will not be compatible with the app. Apple customers received a warning earlier this year and the changes are due to come into effect in a couple of weeks.

The deadline for updating or changing your phone is fast approaching. Later this month on October 24 WhatsApp will stop working with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C.

Due to incoming changes, iOS 10 and iOS 11 will not be supported anymore by WhatsApp, which affects the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C because they cannot upgrade to iOS 12. So if you have one of these old iPhone models, you will have to buy a newer device if you wish to continue using WhatsApp.

However, there are other, newer handsets still running iOS 10 and iOS 11 at the moment like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, which are capable of upgrading to iOS 12, and so customers are advised to do so.

The alert was sent to affected handsets back in May. The message said: "Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp.

"WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after 24 Oct 2022. Please go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version."
