WhatsApp revenge porn bully caught with hundreds of pounds of 'Superman' tablets

A WhatsApp revenge porn bully was caught with hundreds of pounds of "Superman" tablets.

Police seized the ecstasy from 23-year-old student Shazaib Shafqat after becoming suspicious of a parked car.

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Thursday that police were on patrol in the Kensington area at around 3.30pm on October 12 2019 noticed a "strong smell of cannabis" coming from a Volkswagen Polo stopped outside a house on Saxony Road. Graham Pickavance, prosecuting, described how the driver fled, but front seat passenger Shafqat was caught with 20 ecstasy tablets with the Superman logo emblazoned on them in his jacket pocket.

The then 19-year-old, who was studying at the University of Liverpool, claimed: "They're not mine officer. They're his."

A package of cannabis was then recovered from inside the police van in which Shafqat was transported into custody. His flat on London Road in Liverpool city centre was also raided, with further MDMA and small quantities of cocaine and ketamine seized.

Overall, officers found a total of £700 of ecstasy and £500 of cannabis. Shafqat, now of Casterton Avenue in Burnley, later said he was "only supplying student friends" who had "pooled their money" and bought drugs "wholesale".

He was previously jailed for two years at Preston Crown Court in 2020 for disclosing sexual photographs and harassment. It came after the defendant set up a WhatsApp group to send a woman's family sexual images of her.

Shafqat bombarded his victim with hundreds of phone calls and text messages before threatening to share the pictures, vowing to put her and loved ones "through hell" if she did not bow to his wishes. He continued even after being warned to stop contacting her by police, saying in one message: "You f***ing silly smelly b****, don't make me f***ing end your life.

"You think I ain't got the balls anymore to do whatever if I want? I'm telling you.

"Push my buttons a little, you will see what I'm fully capable of. You and your family are going to go through hell."

In another, Shafqat added: "You've got an hour to respond or your full nudes are out. Watch me f**k your mum and dad up now.

"You are f***ed up fully. You're dead."

When she did not respond, Shafqat sent an explicit image of her to her friend then set up a WhatsApp group in the victim's name and added some members of her family. He proceeded to upload images of her which were "sexual in nature" and made threats to send them to others

Matthew Stewart, defending, told the court during his latest appearance: "He simply went down the wrong path, enjoying his freedom away from the family home in Burnley. He acknowledges that damage drug use has on individuals and in society as a whole.

"He overlooked the consequences of his actions. He bitterly regrets the decisions he made.

"He has shown and expresses remorse throughout these proceedings. He does have a supportive family."

Shafqat admitted possession of ecstasy and cannabis with intent to supply and possession of cocaine and ketamine. He was handed a 22-month imprisonment suspended for 18 months, a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 20 days and 150 hours of unpaid work.

Sentencing, Judge Louise Brandon said: "This was clearly a circle of friends in which drugs were supplied between you, and they were not being supplied of a profit basis. It is clear that those who know you know you as a hard-working individual, someone who is deeply valued in the community.

"I accept you bitterly regret these offences, which were committed when you were a student. You have brought shame on your family, and you no doubt have to bear the consequences of that.

"These offences are now approaching three-and-a-half years old. You are still a young man.

"I am giving you a chance to prove that you mean what you say and that you can turn your life around."
