Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has issued a statement after users reported major problems with the app.
Thousands took to social media to complain that while the app itself is still working, they are unable to send or receive any messages. WhatsApp has stated that it is aware of the issue and is working to fix it.
Users began reporting the problem on Tuesday morning when they found that they were able to access their conversations but were unable to deliver any new messages while also seeing a constant "connecting" message at the top of the app. Despite the message, the app continued to fail at connecting to any server for many users.

In a statement, a WhatsApp spokesperson said: “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”
According to the service status website Downdetector, users had begun reporting issues with WhatsApp just before 8am on Tuesday morning. By 8.30am, there were more than 12,000 reports of users not being able to use the app properly.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the UK and it is estimated to have more than two billion active users all around the world. It seems the issues were not just experienced in the UK as Downdetector noted that more than 11,000 users in India and 19,000 in Singapore had also been experiencing issues.
