WhatsApp have implemented a major change giving users the ability to use the messaging platform across more than one smartphone.
The application has introduced the change in a bid to give users a better way of messaging. The Meta-owner chat app announced the upgrade will allow accounts to be linked over numerous devices - for example on a personal phone and work phone - something that was not possible until now leading to frustrations from many users.
Confirming the changes in a blog post, the people at WhatsApp said: ""A feature highly requested by users, now you can link your phone as one of up to four additional devices".
The messaging app also stressed that the same level of privacy will be enabled when using different devices, with the platform using end-to-end encryption, reports the Mirror.
"Each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, ensuring that your personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and if your primary device is inactive for a long period, we automatically log you out of all companion devices," the company added.
The application explained that the upgrade is now being rolled out globally, becoming available to all users in the coming weeks.
There is currently no word of what areas will see the change but UK users will see the change on their devices shortly.
WhatsApp also confirmed another update that is being rolled out in the next few weeks. The application will introduce an alternative and more accessible way to link devices.
The change will give users to ability to link devices more easily by using WhatsApp web and their phone umber to receive a one-time code in order to enable device linking.
This new service replaces the need for a QR code.
