WhatsApp is working again after users were left unable to send or receive messages

WhatsApp is working again after it went down earlier this morning leaving users unable to send or receive messages.

It's thought the popular app broke at around 8am with many people reporting similar issues however, the issue has since been resolved. The problem arose when the messages weren't delivering.

When sending a message, usually two ticks appear in the right corner of the message however, people instead saw a clock icon which occurs when the message is struggling to send.

Many users turned to Twitter to see what has happened. One person said: "So I was blaming my WiFi but actually I got to check on Twitter that the WhatsApp is down," while another said: "Everyone's coming to Twitter to see what had happened to Whatsapp."

According to the service status website Down Detector, users began reporting issues with WhatsApp just before 8am on Tuesday morning, with more than 12,000 reports posted by 8.30am.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the UK and around the world, and is estimated to have more than two billion active users globally. It is not yet clear when the app will be fixed.
