What will the UK weather be like for the Easter weekend? Your bank holiday forecast

England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have all had one of their respective top 10 wettest Marches on record since 1981, according to Met Office numbers

Fortunately, April won’t be seeing as much rain.

The Met Office has released a five-day weather forecast for the UK as Brits prepare for a well-earned break over the Easter weekend.

Good Friday is today, Friday, April 7, marking a bank holiday across the UK. Easter Monday, also a bank holiday, is on April 10, completing a four-day weekend for people in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

So what can we expect from the weather on Easter bank holiday weekend? Here is what we know about the forecast so far.

What will the weather be like for Easter weekend?

The Met Office’s long-range weather forecast says most places in the UK should see largely dry weather with sunny spells from Friday to Sunday, April 16. Forecasters say these pleasant conditions will arrive after chilly starts in the morning.

On Friday, the start of the long weekend, The Met Office says that there will be “Sunny intervals changing to cloudy in the afternoon.” It says any rain is most likely across the west and south-west over the following week.

Winds are expected to be relatively light.

There is a chance of more unsettled conditions, bringing spells of wetter and windier weather more widely by mid-April.

Temperatures are likely to be near normal or slightly above. However, these may drop quickly under any clear skies after dark, leaving scope for some overnight frosts.

Meanwhile, Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, told GB News that the UK would enjoy a four-day warm spell over the bank holiday.

“It’s not going to be a heatwave, but it is by no means going to be washout either,” he said.

“We could see temperatures of around 16°C or 17°C in the shade, but in the sunshine, we could be looking at closer to 19°C in some spots.”

As the Easter weekend approaches and it becomes possible to make specific predictions for Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Bank Holiday Monday, the Met Office will produce more detailed forecasts.
