What we've learnt from the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer and when is the Disney+ release date?

After the success of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, a new Star Wars series is coming to Disney+ soon, starring one of the most recognisable faces to be associated with the franchise since Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

Ewan McGregor is to return to one of his most legendary characters in a new Star Wars story – " Obi-Wan Kenobi."

In other fantastic news for Star Wars fans, Hayden Christensen will also return to star as Darth Vader. The rest of the cast includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

Disney+ has recently released a new teaser trailer for the limited series, giving us more insight into what fans have in store. You can watch the trailer at the top of this article.

What have we learnt from the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer?

For anyone who hasn't watched it in a while, the last of the prequel trilogy of films (released from 1999 to 2005) saw Obi-Wan face the corruption of his former padawan to the dark side, eventually being forced to confront him on the fiery slopes of Mustafar. Though he defeated Anakin Skywalker in a lightsabre duel, the resulting injuries saw Skywalker transformed into the infamous Darth Vader.

The new series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, will be set around a decade after the dark events of "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." The new trailer shows us that Kenobi has gone into hiding after order 66 and is laying low on Tatooine, facing the despair surrounding his greatest failure – the downfall of his former student. "The fight is done. We lost," he says in the trailer.

However, we see him locate a small child, pretending to drive a pod racer – could this be our first glimpse of Luke Skywalker?

As John Williams' renowned "Duel of the Fates" theme music rises in the background, we are shown the Grand Inquisitor, who reveals his tactics for hunting the few remaining Jedi. Other highlights include the introduction of Daiyu, a new planet in the Star Wars galaxy, and our first introduction to Reva, The Third Sister (played by Moses Ingram).

When is Obi-Wan Kenobi out on Disney+?

The limited series from Lucasfilm will come exclusively to Disney+ on May 25, 2022.

May the force be with you.
