What we know about Anthony Edwards’ assault citation after alleged chair-throwing incident

Anthony Edwards has been cited with third-degree assault following the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Game 5 loss against the Denver Nuggets.

Edwards made a rapid departure from the court Tuesday night following his failed season-saving three-pointer, but not before allegedly hitting two women employees with a folding chair he swung in frustration as he headed toward the Timberwolves’ locker room.

This is still a developing story, but here’s everything we know so far:

What was Anthony Edwards cited for?

Denver police cited Edwards with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault for “knowingly or recklessly” causing bodily harm after the chair allegedly hit two women. DPD reported that the injuries were not serious.

What was the Timberwolves' response?

The Timberwolves released a short statement Wednesday:

“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this moment.”

What punishment could Anthony Edwards possibly face?

Edwards is scheduled for a June 9 court date in Denver and could face up to a $1,000 fine and 18 months of jail time if convicted.
