The Balance System Is Not Just Your Inner Ear
Your sense of balance is a negotiation between three systems: the vestibular apparatus in your inner ear, your vision, and the proprioceptive signals coming from your joints and muscles. When vertigo disrupts the inner ear's output, the brain does not simply ignore it. It begins compensating, leaning harder on vision and on the neck and ankle muscles to fill the gap. That compensation is useful in the short term. Over weeks and months without treatment, it becomes a structural problem in its own right.
