What Tottenham fans did vs Man Utd amid Chelsea and Roman Abramovich sanctions

Tottenham fans took aim at London rivals Chelsea when they made the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

It comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of the Blues after owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government on Thursday morning.

The sanctions included the freezing of all of the 55-year-old’s assets in the nation, with Chelsea able to operate under a special licence called the “Russia Regulations”.

It means that the West London club can continue under a footballing basis, but they are restricted by a number of things that impact the way the club operates on a daily basis.

For example, they cannot currently sell any tickets or merchandise, while a maximum of £20,000 can be spent on away travel for players and staff.

That’s just a few of the measures levied against Chelsea, throwing uncertainty over how the club will continue to operate in the future without Roman Abramovich at the helm.

The sanctions were placed by the UK Government as they claimed he was a “pro-Kremlin Oligarch” with links to Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Roman Abramovich has always rejected claims linking him to Vladimir Putin.

Whilst Chelsea fans will see this period as a moment of unrest as they concern themselves with the future of their club, Tottenham fans found a moment to jest over the situation.

In their clash with Old Trafford, the Spurs travelling fans sang: "Chelsea get sanctioned everywhere they go."

The enjoyment may have been short lived though, as Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the home side just moments later, with the hosts leading 2-1 at half-time after further goals from Harry Kane and Ronaldo.

While they may jest the situation with Chelsea from the stands, their full focus will be on the key clash in the race for a top four finish.
