What to expect from newest Ohio State commit, 2025 WR, Jayvan Boggs

Ohio State Football got a surprise commitment on Monday morning, one that they will gladly take.

Florida wide receiver, Jayvan Boggs, a 2025 prospect, made this commitment to the Buckeyes giving them a second verbal in the class, along with quarterback Tavien St. Clair.

The 6-foot, 188-pound pass catcher is currently ranked as the No. 50 play at his position, and the 368th prospect nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

If offensive coordinator Brian Hartline believes in Boggs ability, that should be enough of a selling point. After watching his junior and sophomore highlights it’s easy to see why the Buckeyes went hard after him. Find out what I saw from watching Boggs film below.

Speed

Scout’s view

Boggs has plenty of it, and uses it well. As he will most likely end up in the slot, the ability to take the top off a defense is a must and he can do it. Boggs doesn’t look like he’s moving quickly, but he is and constantly pulls away from defenders.

Hands

Scout’s view

You can just tell that Boggs has been working with a Jugg’s machine, his hands are extremely soft. He does a great job of catching the ball away from his body, not letting passes travel to his chest. They’re strong as well, which is a key component when facing off against completion at this level.

Frame

Scout’s view

Although Boggs is on the smaller side, that doesn’t mean that he can’t use his body to his advantage. He does a great job of shielding defenders to make catches. Boggs get a bit larger when he arrives on campus and that is an imposing proposition for members of opposing secondaries.

Route runner

Scout’s view

Training at the high school level has improved so much in the last few years, so many players are really focusing on their craft. Boggs is in that category, as you can tell that he works on his route running. He’s very quick in and out of his break, not wasting any movement.

Future outlook

Scout’s view

At this point in time it’s so difficult to predict how much of an impact a 2025 prospect will have. Boggs has next year to continue improving, which should result in a rise in the recruiting rankings. Along with that, he’s going to enter a positional group that is loaded with talent. Boggs has the ability to play, but how early is the question. Either way, the potential is there for him to make a mark as a Buckeye.
