What to do if you haven’t received your £326 cost of living payment

Earlier this summer the UK Government began giving millions of people a £326 payment in a bid to tackle the cost of living crisis. More than seven million people received £326 into their bank accounts in July - or September if you're on tax credits - in the first instalment of a combined £650 payment aimed at helping those most impacted by rising costs.

The £650 cost of living payment is being made in two lump sums to those on means-tested benefits. Those who claim universal credit, income-related employment support allowance, income-based jobseeker’s allowance, income support and pension credit, would have received their money between July 14 to July 31. Those on tax credits should have seen the money between September 2 and September 7.

The UK Government has confirmed that the second instalment - £324 - will be with eligible households by the end of October. However, it's possible that you might not have received the first payment yet despite being eligible. This could be, for example, due to an error by the DWP which meant your payment was never processed.

If you haven't yet received a payment but believe you are entitled to one, there is a way you can report a missing payment. On its website, the DWP said: "If you think you should have had the £326 payment, but you cannot see it in your bank, building society or credit union account, you can report a missing cost of living payment.

"If you have already reported a missing payment, you do not need report it again. We will reply to you as soon as we can." You'll need your National Insurance number to report a missing patent. If you've lost your National Insurance number, click here to read about how to find it.

Before reporting a missing payment, the DWP is asking anyone to first check their bank, building society or credit union account, or your payment exception service voucher receipt. The payment will be made separately from your benefit.

To report a missing payment, go to the DWP website by clicking here. This applies whether you're on a qualifying benefit or claiming tax credits. To get the latest money news straight to your inbox, subscribe to our dedicated newsletter here.
