What Titans should do with pending free-agent specialists

One of the few bright spots for the Tennessee Titans in 2023, the team’s specialists all performed at a high level.

Kicker Nick Folk, who was acquired via trade right before the start of the season, was great in his role and stabilized what has been a problematic position for the Titans in recent years.

Punter Ryan Stonehouse was on pace for yet another record-breaking season and Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods before suffering a season-ending injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13.

His replacement, Ty Zentner, was about as good as the Titans could have hoped for in relief of one of the best punters in the game.

Last but not least, long snapper Morgan Cox was his usual elite self.

Of the four aforementioned players, two of them will be free agents, but the Titans will also have to make a decision on one of the others who are under contract.

Let’s play some keep or let go with the trio, shall we?

LS Morgan Cox

Syndication: The Tennessean

We haven’t heard anything about Cox over his three years with the team, which is exactly how you want things with your long snapper. That means he’s doing his job well.

Cox is one of the best in the business at his job and bringing him back for a fourth season is a no-brainer.

Verdict: Keep

K Nick Folk

Syndication: The Tennessean

Folk had some hiccups throughout the season but was great for the Titans overall.

The veteran nailed 29 of his 30 field goals (including 5-of-6 from 50-plus) and 28 of 30 extra points. Touchbacks on kickoffs weren’t an issue, either, as Folk posted the third-best percentage of his career.

Like Cox, bringing Folk back is an easy decision.

Verdict: Keep

Should Titans keep P Ty Zentner?

Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

Zentner is under contract for 2024 and while the Titans already have an elite punter in Stonehouse, it would make sense to keep his 2023 replacement around for at least the offseason.

Zentner was solid, posting 46.1 yards per punt and dropping eight of his 24 punts inside the 20.

Tennessee should hang on to him until they are sure Stonehouse will be ready for the start of the season. If not, they have a temporary in-house solution.

Verdict: Keep
