What Timo Werner did to Andreas Christensen in training as Chelsea receive triple injury boost

Chelsea were back to work on Monday under the watchful eye of Thomas Tuchel following a comprehensive win over Burnley at the weekend.

The Blues don't have to wait long to be back in action as they travel to Carrow Road on Thursday evening to take on Norwich in the Premier League, after the match was rearranged following Chelsea's progression in the FA Cup.

Tuchel's side are looking to extend their run of three wins on the bounce in the division and having defeated the Canaries 7-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season, they will be hopeful of earning three points once again.

It seems the German coach may already have had a significant boost ahead of the clash.

football.london takes a look at what we can learn from Monday's training session below:

Injury boost

The Blues were without a number of faces for the trip to Turf Moor but their training numbers were boosted on Monday.

Cesar Azpilicueta picked up a knock in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool and missed Chelsea's last two fixtures against Luton Town and Burnley. The Spaniard was back in action at Cobham ahead of Norwich however, pictured running with the ball away from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and also looking to challenge the likes of Andreas Christensen.

He was joined by countryman Marcos Alonso who also missed the trip to Turf Moor. Following that game Tuchel said: “Marcos is still ill. He has quite a lot of Covid symptoms so he’s absolutely not able to do training or a game.”

Alonso was fully involved and was seen competing against the likes of N'Golo Kante.

Chelsea further stated that Ben Chilwell was the only absence from the first team training session, indicating that Callum Hudson-Odoi was also involved after missing the clash against Burnley.

It appears the 21-year-old is still managing an Achilles issue which he has played through in recent weeks.

The youngsters involved

Once again Harvey Vale leads the way in academy involvement in first team training. The 18-year-old has been regularly present since the Blues returned from the Club World Cup and obviously saw minutes against Luton Town in the FA Cup.

The Cobham star has also featured in a number of Chelsea squads since the turn of the year but missed out on the trip to Turf Moor at the weekend but swiftly rejoined the first team numbers.

On this occasion he was joined by Xavier Simons, who started Chelsea's Carabao Cup win over Brentford in December, and Bashir Humphreys.

Humphreys has missed much of the season through injury and returned to the academy set up in January after being out since September. The versatile centre-back returned to on-field action in an eight-minute stint against Arsenal in Premier League 2 in February, having started the under-23s opening four matches.

What Timo Werner did to Andreas Christensen in training

Werner found his inner Antonio Rudiger in Blues training on Monday as he found himself flying across the floor looking to make tackles in Chelsea's warm up rondo.

The German international first went flying at Simons, and did enough to make the youngster give the ball away and received a jovial push from Trevoh Chalobah.

Werner teamed up with the youngster in the centre as a result and the former RB Leipzig forward attempted to do the same against Christensen. He made a double attempt on the Denmark international who was quick enough to keep the ball moving.
