The Met Office has forecast a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms for the North East of England and Southern Scotland.
In our region, the warning covers Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, Sunderland. It will be in place from 12pm to 7pm on Wednesday June 8.
What to expect
There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

Rain will move across northern England which will ease as it moves north into Scotland. It will remain dry but mostly cloudy far north Scotland. Elsewhere there will be sunny spells and showers, some heavy with hail and thunder. It will be breezy in the south and warm in the southeast.
Tonight, there will be clear spells as showers die out. Areas of light rain and drizzle will continue across the north. There will be largely murky conditions here, particularly across north-eastern coasts. It will be cold by daybreak in the south.
