What time is the Queen's funeral? Millions set to tune into live coverage of state event

There are now just days to go until the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, with audiences set to tune in in their millions across the UK and the world to witness the state event.

Her Majesty died peacefully at the age of 96 at Balmoral, her much loved Scottish residence on Thursday, September 8, with her passing announced to the nation hours later, just after 6.30pm.

Since then, the country has been united in grief and sadness at the long-serving monarch's death, with TV channels like BBC and ITV devoting most of their airtime to coverage of tributes and the events that have followed, including the ceremonial proclamation of The Queen's son, King Charles III, The Queen's coffin's journey from Balmoral to Holyrood and the very moving service held for Her Majesty at St Giles' Chapel in Edinburgh, where her four children kept a vigil by her side.

On Tuesday evening, The Queen 's body will be flown back to England, with the coffin then transported to Buckingham Palace, where it is expected to be met by members of the Royal Family. And then from Wednesday evening, the Queen's coffin will be at Westminster Hall, where members of the public are set to queue up in their droves over a four day period to file past it and pay their respects.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, September 19, with world leaders such as US President Joe Biden set to attend the service at Westminster Abbey.

What time is the Queen's funeral?

The service itself is set to start at 11am on Monday. It is set to be preceded by a procession through London as thousands of mourners gather to their final goodbye to the much-loved head of state.

The funeral itself will be broadcast live to the nation, as will the committal service in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, but the internment service will be private and not televised.

After the service at Westminster Abbey, members of the Royal Family will walk in procession from the Abbey to Wellington Arch, before the Queen's coffin is moved into a state hearse and taken to Windsor.

There will be a service for the Queen's household, past and present and then at 4pm a committal service will begin and the coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault as the Dean of Windsor reads a psalm.

When will the Queen's funeral be on TV?

Funeral coverage is set to dominate TV channels on Monday. The BBC is set to deliver its coverage on BBC One, BBC News and BBC iPlayer, with timings to be confirmed.

ITV has announced it will stage its 'biggest outdoor broadcast ever' for the funeral. Good Morning Britain will begin ITV's coverage of the sad and momentous day, before coverage of the run up to Her Majesty's funeral and the service itself..

Moving into the evening, ITV will broadcast a documentary film chronicling the events of the past ten days from Her Majesty The Queen’s death to the state funeral. There will be a special programme focussing on the day’s events at 9pm, followed by an extended News at Ten.

Every ITV channel will feature the coverage from morning to night, meaning the likes of ITV2, ITV3 and 4 and ITVBe will see their normal programming suspended.

Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky News are also set to air extensive funeral coverage. Sky News will start with Kay Burley at Westminster Abbey from 5am, before Anna Botting takes over from 9am to guide viewers through the Funeral Procession and service from Westminster Abbey, which commences at 11am.
