What time is the Grand National

Today's big feature race at Aintree is set to get underway at 5.15pm. It is the sixth race on the card today, with one race taking place afterwards at 6.20pm.

Just ahead of the 5.15pm start, the 39 confirmed runners will be led around the parade ring, before each jockey climbs on board and makes their way to the course.

Once underway, the race will take approximately 10 minutes to finish. The fastest Grand National time was recorded by Mr Frisk in 1990 who finished the course in just under nine minutes.

Where is the Grand National held

The Grand National takes place at Aintree racecourse. Aintree is in the borough of Sefton on Merseyside, which borders the city of Liverpool.

Aintree racecourse opened in July 1829. The Liverpool Grand Steeplechase was first run a few years later, in February 1836.

It is debated by historians whether that running is the first ever true Grand National, but many favour the 1839 event as the inaugural version.

Grand National TV channel

The Grand National will be broadcast live on ITV1 and Racing TV. Viewers in the UK can also tune in on ITV's streaming service, ITVX.

ITV's coverage of Grand National day will start at 2pm. Earlier races are scheduled to take place at 2.25pm, 3pm, 3.35pm and 4.15pm before the big one takes place at 5.15pm. ITV's coverage will end at 6.15pm.

Racing TV's coverage kicks off at 1.15pm and ends at 6.45pm.

How can I listen to Grand National commentary

As well as ITV1 and Racing TV broadcasts, there will be radio services covering the Grand National. BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT 2 will be tailoring their sports programme to the Grand National today.

BBC Radio 5 Live will have live coverage of the Grand National on Saturday from 5pm, with the race itself starting at 5.15pm. TalkSPORT 2's Rupert Bell and Lizzie Kelly will provide live commentary from Aintree from 5pm.
