The Grand National is back for another year on Saturday as race goers flock to Aintree for the first time in two years.
Like many other big sporting events, the world famous horse race was cancelled in 2020 after the country was plunged into the first national lockdown and subject to stringent restrictions. Even when it came back last year, the Grand National was a very much scaled down affair, with no punters allowed at Aintree as a cap was put on attendance.
However, with all Covid related restrictions now gone, a huge crowd is expected to descend on the Liverpool course on Saturday, April 9 when the Randox 2022 Grand National takes place. There has already been a buoyant atmosphere at Aintree, with race goers dressing to impress for Ladies Day on Friday.

ITV have once again got the rights to show the Grand National, having recently switched their schedule around for live coverage of Cheltenham. They will start their coverage early in the afternoon, before concluding things with the big one.
What time is the Grand National on?
The 2022 Grand National will get going at 5.15pm. Live coverage from Aintree will start on ITV at 2pm, with races at 2.25, 3.00, 3.35 and 4.15pm before the big one, the Grand National at 5.15pm.
Guests will include AP McCoy, Ruby Walsh and Mick Fitzgerald, with reports by Alice Plunkett, Matt Chapman and Luke Harvey and betting updates from Brian Gleeson. Ex Love Island star Chris Hughes will be on hand with 'social stable' new and commentary will come from Richard Hoiles, Mark Johnson and Ian Bartlett.
The racing coverage will be preceded by a Virtual Grand National at 1pm, which will see pundits try and predict the result of the actual race.
