What the Tottenham fans did when Ryan Sessegnon was hauled off after 27 minutes vs Wolves

You do not get to where Antonio Conte is in management without making big decisions and he did so again on Sunday, taking Tottenham left-back Ryan Sessegnon off before 30 minutes had been played.

Wolves were the visitors in north London as Spurs looked to keep the pressure on those above them as they hunted down a return to the top-four.

But they could not have made a worse possible start.

Raul Jimenez opened the scoring for Bruno Lage's side after just six minutes and only 12 minutes later, it was 2-0, Leander Dendoncker turning from provider to goalscorer to rock the home side.

Something clearly was not working and Conte took action just 10 minutes later as his side continued to come under pressure.

It was decided that a change of shape was required. Sadly for Sessegnon, this involved him being replaced by January signing Dejan Kulusevski to allow them to switch to a 4-2-3-1.

It is a moment that every player dreads, and it was hard not to feel very sorry for the 21-year-old as he started the long walk round the perimeter of the pitch to the dugout.

Usually this happens after a player has put in a particularly poor display, but it would be harsh to say the same of Sessegnon.

In this instance, there was plenty of sympathy from the home fans as their player was withdrawn, with many warmly applauding him as he past them on his way to the bench.

He went straight off the side of the pitch, rather than going to halfway and had to walk around the stadium to get to the dugout and was warmly applauded as he went, the supporters realising just how demoralising such a move can be for a young player.

Once there, he received a pat on the back from Conte and took his place on the bench with an admirable lack of fuss.
