The Road That Stays Visible
Regret is not the same as grief. Grief knows its object is gone. Regret keeps the other life in view, the degree you did not finish, the person you did not stay for, the city you left or never reached, and measures the present against it, constantly, the way a tongue finds a missing tooth. The Bhagavad Gita opens inside this exact feeling. Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra is not afraid of what is in front of him. He is paralysed by what choosing will cost him. He sees both roads at once and cannot move.
