The ECHO has taken a look at what the national average rental price can get you in a number of Merseyside areas after rent outside of London reached a new record.
According to Rightmove, the national average rent is now £1,162 and jumped by 3% in the three months to September 2022.
Demand is also outstripping supply, although new rental properties were placed on the market during the period. Tenant demand climbed by 20% compared to 2021, while available properties were down by 9%.
As a result, competition is at an all time high, and with mortgage rates sky rocketing, some renters could be handing over cash to their landlords for a little longer than desired.

The ECHO has taken a look at what the average can get you in a number of areas across Liverpool and Sefton, from the city centre to the coast. Some areas were a little shy of the £1,162 average, so we've gone with the most expensive in the area at the time.
Liverpool city centre
When it comes to city centre rentals, it's all about location, and you're not getting better than Reliance House on Water Street. Aside from the stunning architecture, the area is near an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as being on the doorstep of Liverpool's business district.
This two-bed flat is available for £1,100 per month and comes fully furnished. The interior is also brand new.
Bootle
In Bootle you can rent a three-bedroom semi-detached home for £895 per month. It's well below the national average, but was one of the most expensive rental properties on the market in the area.
The property on Springwell Road has been fully revamped and is in a "quiet residential area", according to the listing by James Kristian.
It has three bedrooms and one bathroom, with modern grey flooring throughout and a brand new kitchen. Even the garden has been done to a high standard, with decking and astroturf.
Aigburth
In south Liverpool, on the doorstep of the historic Sefton Park , a two-bed apartment is on the market for £1,100 per month.
Set within a striking white manor on Parkfield Road, the ground floor property comprises an open plan living space, modern kitchen with integrated appliances, and even an outdoor space.
Crosby
Being by the coast, Crosby is a sought after location for renters and buyers alike, with a three-bed terrace on Neville Road available to let for £1,000 with Ewe Move.
Despite being a terrace, the property is roomy, with high ceilings and huge bay windows opening the space up. There's also period features such as coving and fireplaces, while the modern kitchen comes complete with spotlights.
Neville Road is also off the lively South Road, full of independent bars and restaurants, and a short walk to Crosby Marina and Coastal Park.
Walton
This new build in L9 is seeking new tenants for a little shy of £1,000 a month. The space is immaculately presented, with a bright and airy lounge and living space leading to a huge kitchen/diner complete with sky lights.
The home has three bedrooms and one bathroom, and boasts a huge garden. The landlord is also pet friendly.
Formby
Further up the coast, and in an area renowned for its footballing royalty residents, is a two-bed apartment on Victoria Road in Formby .
Set within a private gated building, the property has a large open plan living space and kitchen, with huge windows to let the natural light in. Décor has been kept neutral in creams and off whites, so any renter could put their own stamp on the place. It's available to let for £1,050 a month.
