It was once home to around 500 patients, but by 2019 Rosslynee Hospital had well and truly been left to rot.
Two years ago Urban Explorers took on the challenge of visiting the hospital and investigating what was left of the once grand sanctuary.

Rosslynlee Hospital is a bulky, imposing building that sits in 64 acres of beautiful woodland near Penicuik in Midlothian.
Founded in 1874 as Midlothian and Peebles Asylum (1874 - 1948), it housed around 500 patients with mental health issues.
It was entirely closed off from the nearby community and even had its own water supply and boiler house. Patients were expected to work in the walled garden and produce food for themselves; it was thought this wholesome work would help their recovery.
It changed its name to Rosslynlee Mental Hospital in 1948, and was simply known as Rosslynlee Hospital after 1960. It eventually closed in 2011, and has lain vacant ever since, gradually crumbling and being reclaimed by nature.
Some rooms have plants growing up through the floor, walls are peeling, and rusting medical equipment has been discarded in corners. It's pretty spooky, in other words.
We look back and remember what several brave urban explorers found inside the haunting - and possibly haunted - building, including some photos that were taken in 2019.
