What’s Washington’s Super Bowl odds after Carson Wentz trade?

Washington head coach Ron Rivera has been adamant the Commanders had a strong roster that was close to contention. All the Commanders needed was the right quarterback to take them to the next level.

Washington finally landed its quarterback earlier this month, trading multiple draft picks to the Indianapolis Colts for Carson Wentz.

The trade has been highly criticized around the NFL, but mainly because of how Wentz’s tenures ended in each of his last two stops. There’s no doubt that Wentz represents an upgrade for Washington at quarterback. And for Rivera, that’s all that matters.

Since free agency opened last week, Washington has signed only two outside free agents in guard Andrew Norwell and backup defensive end Efe Obada.

So, how do the oddsmakers view Washington’s Super Bowl chances as compared to one month ago?

Last month, Sportsbook Wire had the Commanders at +5000 to win the Super Bowl. Now, after the trade for Wentz, oddsmakers have Washington at +6000, per Tipico Sportsbook.

Washington Commanders +6000 – (Feb. 14: +5000)

2021 regular-season records:
  • Record: 7-10
  • ATS: 7-9-1
  • O/U: 7-10

Implied win %: 1.64

Washington’s Super Bowl chances continue to get worse, while other teams around the NFL are making moves to get better. While the Commanders improved at quarterback, they are still far from a Super Bowl contender. Perhaps Washington makes some moves in free agency and the 2022 NFL draft to improve its chances.
