Southampton have been linked with a late January move for Tottenham midfielder Deli Alli as the midfielder seeks regular first team football.
Dele has struggled to recapture his early Spurs form which saw him labelled as one of the best youngsters playing in Europe after he joined from MK Dons in 2015.
As he looks to get his career back on the track, the 25-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs, including Newcastle United and Southampton.
Neither team are yet to make a formal bid for the England international with a little under a week to go until the January transfer window closes.
But comments Hasenhuttl has made in the past about Dele's career and what he can bring to a team indicate a move to St Mary's in the current transfer window could be a possibility.
“He’s not the only player who has one fantastic year and then the next one it was not flowing that much. It’s not abnormal,” said Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, when quizzed on links to the midfielder over 12 months ago.
“We have a lot of examples of players who showed up as shooting stars and then it was a bit calmer.
“It’s important he’s still working hard and fighting to be in the squad [at Tottenham]. If he does this, he has so much quality he could be in the England team.
“Everyone wants to have a Dele Alli because he is quick, he can score and has fantastic quality.”
Southampton have one loan spot available and a deal until the end of the season could be beneficial to both parties.
