What Rafael Leao did with Milan directors and Olivier Giroud as Arsenal lead race for £31m move

Arsenal target Rafael Leao was the toast of AC Milan on Wednesday as he was presented with a special award for reaching 100 appearances for the club.

The Portuguese striker, who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the summer window, reached the milestone at the weekend with his outing against Sampdoria.

He marked the occasion in style with his tenth goal of the season - making the current campaign the most productive of his fledgling career thus far.

As a result, Leao was presented with a special award on the training ground, whilst he was also applauded by numerous teammates - including former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

Following the presentation of the award, Frederic Massara gave a few words.

He said: “We are gathered here today to reward Rafael Leao who reached 100 appearances with the Rossoneri in Sunday’s game against Sampdoria.

“A journey which began two-and-a-half years ago on 25 August 2019 in Udinese vs AC Milan leading up to Sunday with a beautiful goal. Looking forward to many more with you, congratulations Rafa.”

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Leao also spoke, signalling his intention to claim silverware with Milan between now and the end of the campaign.

“Thanks to everyone. I am very happy to have reached 100 appearances in Rossonero. I hope we all, including the staff to win something important this year,” the Portuguese said.

Whilst Milan will certainly hope to hold onto Leao for the foreseeable future, it appears that a move to Arsenal could be on the cards.

According to La Reppublica, the Gunners are leading the race for his services, whilst Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also thought to be interested.

His contract at the San Siro is set to run until the summer of 2024 and he is currently valued at £31m by transfermarkt.
