Thomas Frank’s first Tottenham press conference provided an all too accurate prediction. “One thing is 100% sure,” he declared. “We will lose football matches.” It was the kind of blunt practicality that characterised his Spurs reign, observations that did little to build excitement and get the supporters dreaming big.
In the end, the reality caught up with Frank. Defeat to Newcastle extended the winless run in the Premier League to eight matches. Spurs sit just five points clear of the relegation zone and they have dropped points against all four of the sides below them in the table.
