Harvey Elliott was forced to wait for his first Champions League goal in Liverpool’s 7-1 win over Rangers.
The Reds came from a goal behind to claim an emphatic victory over the Scottish Premiership club at Ibrox. Roberto Firmino scored a brace, supported by a strike from Darwin Nunez and a quickfire Mohamed Salah hat-trick, with Elliott scoring in the final minutes.
Elliott’s strike was initially judged to be offside by the linesman. However, after a VAR review the goal was given and put Liverpool 7-1 up on Wednesday night.

Whilst the goal was being checked, Elliott and the Liverpool players were forced to wait for the final decision. As the wait went on, the Reds star could not hide his emotions at the prospect of being awarded his first goal in the Champions League.
Over the course of a couple of minutes, Elliott held his hands in the air and crossed his fingers, before being greeted by Salah. The Egyptian put his arms around Elliott and said something to his team-mate, as the pair had a smile on their faces as they waited for the decision.
Once the goal was given, Elliott ran towards the travelling Kop and celebrated his maiden Champions League strike.
The result leaves Liverpool on the cusp of securing qualification to the knockout stages of the competition. A point in their next match away at Ajax would guarantee progression to the last-16.
