What Mikel Arteta and Edu did during international break as Arsenal prepare for title run-in

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar were spotted in attendance at the Emirates Stadium to watch Arsenal Women play Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. The Gunners progressed into the Champions League semi-finals after winning 2-1 on aggregate thanks to goals from Frida Maanum and Stina Blackstenius.

Arteta took time out of his preparations for the return of Premier League action this weekend to show his support for Arsenal Women alongside the club's sporting director. The men's team take on Leeds United on Saturday afternoon as they aim to maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the table.

The north Londoners head into the final 10 games of the season ahead of reigning champions Manchester City. Arteta's side still need to travel to face City at the Etihad Stadium towards the end of April - along with tricky games against Liverpool and Chelsea on the horizon.

Arteta and Edu would have been delighted to see the women's team take another step towards the Champions League final. The Gunners boss will hope he can lead his squad to a similar accomplishment next season with Champions League qualification looking highly likely for the men's team as well.

Arsenal have not featured in the Champions League since the 2016/17 season when they reached the round of 16 stage. Edu will be looking to bolster Arteta's squad with further additions in the hope of continuing their brilliant development under the Spaniard as they aim to go the distance upon their return to Europe's elite club competition.

football.london understands the Gunners are prioritising a move for West Ham captain Declan Rice this summer, but will face competition from Liverpool and Chelsea. The appeal of Champions League football will help their cause with the Reds and the Blues looking unlikely to finish inside the top four this season.

Other players to be linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium include Jesper Lindstrom, Moussa Diaby and Ivan Fresneda. Edu is likely to try and move on a number of fringe players this summer to fund yet another busy transfer window for the Gunners.
