What Manchester United move for Antony means for Amad

Manchester United are hoping to send Amad out on loan once they complete the signing of Antony from Ajax.

The Manchester Evening News understands United have received numerous enquiries for the 20-year-old this summer and are carefully weighing up which offer would be best suited to him.

United committed to spending up to £37million on Amad when he had only played 76 minutes of senior football for former side Atalanta, but he has struggled for meaningful minutes since moving to Old Trafford.

The right winger has made just nine senior appearances since arriving in January 2021, and he didn't have much more joy when he moved on loan to Scottish giants Rangers midway through last season.

French side Nice had looked at the United youngster as a potential summer signing before moving to sign priority target Nicolas Pepe on loan from Arsenal last week.

Turkish side Beskitas and Belgian club Anderlecht have both been credited with an interest in the Ivorian winger, while it is understood a number of Championship sides are also keen, namely Blackpool and Sunderland.

A move to the second-tier of English football might appeal to United the most, as the club are keen for Amad to get used to playing in the conditions he would expect to face in their first team.

It was this desire to get the Ivorian acclimatised to British football that saw Rangers land his signature last season when he had many other offers from abroad. Amad had a difficult loan spell in Scotland, though, scoring three goals from just 13 appearances.

United sources have continuously backed the youngster to come good at the club, but since he was signed, United have spent £73million on Jadon Sancho and are set to break the bank to bring fellow right-winger Antony to the club.

One of the key reasons Erik ten Hag wants to sign Antony is because he believes United already have a lot of similar attackers and are lacking a left-footer who can bring balance to their attack.

Amad registered 160 minutes of action in pre-season under Ten Hag, netting the club's final goal of the summer schedule in their 1-1 home draw with Rayo Vallecano.
