What Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen did after Denmark exited World Cup

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen congratulated Australia manager Graham Arnold after his side knocked Denmark out of the Qatar World Cup on Wednesday night.

Eriksen has been in excellent form at Old Trafford this season and he was one of the first names to make Demark's 26-man squad to play at the World Cup, but his nation failed to progress from the group stage after a 1-0 defeat against Australia.

Although Denmark were the favourites to finish second in Group D, they drew with Tunisia and lost against France and Australia, condemning them to a disappointing bottom-place finish after a strong Euro 2020 campaign.

While Eriksen started and played the full 90 minutes in each group match, he was unable to inspire his nation to progress.

Just like his teammates, who wanted to return to the dressing room, the 30-year-old looked crestfallen on the pitch after the final whistle against Australia, but that didn't stop him from finding Australia's manager Arnold to pass on his congratulations.

It was a classy response from Eriksen, who captained Denmark on Wednesday in the absence of Simon Kjaer. The World Cup was Eriksen's first major tournament since his cardiac arrest and he'll be hoping to represent his country at Euro 2024.

Eriksen has played close to 1,500 minutes for United this season and he'll now get the chance for a rest before returning to domestic action with United.
