What makes this Scottish city one of the best in the UK for job opportunities?

ABERDEEN has been named one of the best cities in the UK when it comes to job opportunities.

The city, which has been dubbed the "Oil Capital of Europe", is the third largest in Scotland and has a population of around 260,000 residents.

The Granite City was featured alongside other major towns and cities in the UK, including Winchester, St Albans and Chelmsford.

Revealing how the information was gathered, HR firm Ciphr said: "To discover which locations in the UK have the best job opportunities, Ciphr ranked 100 of the most populous towns and cities in the country based on factors like average salary, wage growth, employment rate growth, unemployment rate, job listings, and the number of businesses.

"House prices and rental costs were also included in the analysis to reflect the city’s affordability and cost of living, as were life satisfaction and happiness scores."

Why was Aberdeen named one of the best cities in the UK for job opportunities?

Aberdeen was the only Scottish city ranked in the top 15 and received high marks for its salary growth (9.2%) and its employment rate growth (4.9%).

It was also said to have higher wages with workers in the city earning £190 more than those in the rest of the UK. The average salary in the city was recorded at £35,153 a year.

Business density in the city was also said to be high at 77.2 while the growth of businesses in Aberdeen was recorded at 2.2%.

There are more than 150,000 working-age people in the city with more than 74% of the population being employed.

In terms of property prices, Aberdeen was much lower than some of the places listed with the average house costing around £182,000.

Renting was also generally cheaper when compared to other parts of the country with residents able to expect an average monthly rent of around £686.
