Leeds United will go into the final day of the Premier League season with a chance of securing survival after rescuing a late point against Brighton. Pascal Struijk’s stoppage-time equaliser ensured the Whites moved out of the bottom three in the final home game of the season.
They will now go into the trip to Brentford next Sunday knowing they can avoid relegation after going a point above Burnley. The Clarets were beaten by Tottenham in the early kick-off but could move back above Leeds on Thursday evening with their game-in-hand away at Aston Villa.
A Burnley victory at Villa Park would put them two points ahead of Jesse Marsch’s side heading into the final day of the campaign. That would leave Leeds needing a win of their own at Brentford which would have to be paired with a defeat for Burnley against Newcastle.

The Whites’ vastly inferior goal difference means that they will have to finish the season with more points than Mike Jackson’s side. If Burnley are beaten by Aston Villa on Thursday, Leeds will just have to better their result on the final day with a victory guaranteeing their place in the Premier League again next season. All eyes will be on the action in the West Midlands on Thursday where Steven Gerrard’s side will have the support of every Leeds fan around the world.
Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Everton are still not quite safe from relegation although, with three games left, they are likely to need just two points to ensure they will finish above Leeds. They will look to take advantage of their two home games against Brentford and Crystal Palace before their tough final-day trip to face Arsenal.
Victory in any of those games will secure their survival. Although, they have had plenty of problems this season and points are certainly not guaranteed in their last few games.
While unlikely now, it could well be a three-way battle on the final day of the season. Whether or not Everton will be involved remains to be seen but Struijk’s equaliser has made sure Leeds will have, at least, a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League on the very last day.
