Michigan State’s offensive coaching staff gained a commitment from a game-changing running back Jarek Broussard, a transfer from Colorado. Broussard possesses a unique skillset, a shifty speed back that can make people miss and can change the pace of a game, something that will pair perfectly with the downhill power runners MSU already has in Jalen Berger and Eli Collins.
Broussard committed to Michigan State after taking an official visit over the weekend, a visit in which the transfer was blown away by the campus, the coaches and Spartan Nation.
Broussard got his first taste of Spartan Nation alongside the rivalry with the University of Michigan, and he is definitely embracing both.
“The thing that stood out most on my visit was the basketball game vs the school from up the road, the atmosphere was through the roof and it gave me a glimpse of gameday on Saturday. Spartan Nation is serious,” Broussard explained.
It usually takes time to digest a visit and make a decision on whether or not someone wants to commit or not, but Broussard knew he wanted to make the move to be a part of Spartan nation after his visit.
“MSU is like a big family and I’m big on family also when Coach Johnson showed me the practice film from 2019. It brought back memories but It also made me feel like it was meant to be. Almost a full-circle moment.”
There was a period of time that many in the industry thought Oregon was the leader for Broussard, but that didn’t stop MSU’s hot pursuit, eventually setting the Spartans apart from the rest.
“What set MSU apart the most was culture. Being on campus and meeting with people made me realize how rich the history was.,” Broussard explained. “To actually have players who played and had an impact on past teams that were really good was great to see (Darien Harris). The whole weekend was great and I want to thank the entire recruiting team. They made me feel like it was home already.”
Effrem Reed was promoted to take over MSU’s vacant RB coach position, his first job in the role. Reed has been on a roll on the recruiting trail and has a lot of people excited about what he can do coaching the position.
“Coach Effrem is great and he’s young. It’s always great to see young guys get a shot. He’s originally from Louisiana too so all good vibes. Everything was genuine,” Broussard said.
Ultimately, Broussard will be donning the green and white this upcoming fall and will be a focal point of the offense and in the efforts to replace Kenneth Walker. But what is Broussard most excited about in becoming a Spartan?
“The thing I’m looking forward to most is Saturdays. I can’t wait to play in front of Spartan Nation and build bonds with my teammates,” Broussard said.
