What Kalvin Phillips has said on his Leeds United future as Man City agree deal

Kalvin Phillips' time at Elland Road appears to be over after Manchester CIty agreed a deal to take the England midfielder to the Etihad. With the Leeds academy graduate only tied down in West Yorkshire until 2024, talk has been rife all summer about whether or not his intentions are to stay.

Clubs such as Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle were linked, but it's Pep Guardiola's City who seem to have got their man.

Just what had Phillips had to say on his future?

It is no secret the Whites midfielder has had to work to reach this point in his career, with former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa playing a huge part in helping the 26-year-old become who he is today. Phillips has spoken out on this, insisting he is firmly aware of his footballing rise.

“Going from Championship to Premier League to England Player of the Year, it was an eye-opener and made me realise, ‘I can do this’,” Phillips told the Mail before Christmas. “Everything came together, the hard work taking me where I wanted to be.

"If I carry on doing that, who knows where I’ll end up? I just want to focus on getting back fit, but I speak to the owner regularly. I want a new contract. I’m very happy here.”

When further asked about the transfer fee of £60m that could be required to enable the England international to leave Elland Road, he added: “I just think it’s mental, but I’m not gonna say that I’m not worth £60m!”
