What Jurgen Klopp told Bobby Clark on touchline before Liverpool debut

Bobby Clark has spoken about his joy after the 17-year-old was handed his Liverpool first team debut at Anfield on Saturday.

The teenager was introduced as an 83rd minute substitute for Trent Alexander-Arnold, as the Reds romped to a record-equalling 9-0 win against sorry Bournemouth.

Clark did not managed to get onto the scoresheet himself, but gained as much enjoyment from watching his teammates score goal after goal as he did making his first Premier League appearance.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, he said: "When they started going seven, eight, I was hoping I could get on and nick one myself! But obviously that didn’t happen. It was proper special [and] exciting watching them. Obviously 9-0 speaks for itself, it was great to watch on the side.

Epsom-born Clark joined Liverpool's Youth Academy from Newcastle United 12 months ago, when was still 16, before signing a professional contract with the Reds on his 17th birthday in February of this year.

The forward explained what manager Klopp had told him to do before making his maiden appearance and how being around established players is helping to shape his own embryotic career.

Clark said: "He (Klopp) just fills you with confidence (and said), ‘Just do what you usually do – take shots on, go on dribbles.’ Yeah, he fills you with confidence. Every day in training I’m just taking it all in and learning off the best. They just help you every day in training, help you learn and improve… I’ve got to be patient and impress the boss in training. Hopefully if I keep training well and doing what he wants me to do, hopefully there is an opportunity here."

Clark made 23 appearances for Liverpool U18s last season, scoring 13 goals. He has also made one appearance for England at U16 level, figuring against Wales in April 2021.
